In 1972, the figures for adult fiction and children fiction books stood at 20%, before both increased to around 25% in 1992. There was a slight rise in children’s fiction books to 25% in 2012. Meanwhile, adult fiction books experienced a significant increase to 45% in 2012.
There was a gradual fall in the sale of biography books, from 20% in 1972 to 8% in 2012. The proportion of travel books started at 15% in 1972 and increased to 18% in 1992, before dropping to 10% in 2012. In addition, the figure for other books decreased dramatically, from 25% in 1972 to 12% in 2012.
