i.e. & e.g. in parentheses

I'm told that in formal writing the abbreviations 'i.e.' and 'e.g.' should be placed in parentheses as shown in all examples below. Is this correct?


I like citrus fruits (e.g., oranges and lemons).


I like all fruits (i.e., I eat pretty much anything).


I like citrus fruits (e.g., oranges and lemons), but I also like many non-citrus fruits.


I like all fruits (i.e., I eat pretty much anything), but I also like many different types of salad.
