Idioms to express approval

Hi,

Which of the following idiomatic expressions (of approval ) are common [and so are worth memorizing)?
All of them should presumably mean "well done", "good boy (girl)" and the like, but... if you people with first-hand knowledge could check? :-)

The starting one is taken from an EnglishForward teacher's reply, but the other "idioms" may well be outdated/uncommon/unnatural, etc.
  • (that's the) way to go!
  • that's the card
  • that's the cheese
  • that's the shot
  • that's the spirit
  • that's the stuff
thank you!

I haven't ever heard, and wouldn't use, "that's the card", "that's the cheese", "that's the shot" and "that's the stuff". They might be used in other countries (I'm a New Zealander) but I kind of doubt it. I think they may be old-fashioned.

  • Also, "that's the ticket" is old-fashioned.
  • " could be considered a bit patronising, mostly used with children I think.

Only "way to go" and "that's the spirit" are common in AmE for the context.

Someone may say "that's the stuff" when enjoying a drink or a massage. The others don't make sense to me as idioms.
