Hello, I'd like to ask you if an idiomatic interpretation is possible in the following sentences.
Original idiom: The cat is out of the bag.
The cat seems to be out of the bag.
The cat appears to be out of the bag.
*The cat feels that it is out of the bag.
(The cat and it are co-referential)
As far as I'm concerned, the idiomatic interpretation is possible in the first two sentences but is it right?
Also, I assume that the third sentence can't be interpreted as idiomatic. (Let's not consider that the sentence itself is a little strange.)
I'd like you to let me know if my understanding is right. Thank you in advance.
YukiKanda As far as I'm concerned, the idiomatic interpretation is possible in the first two sentences but is it right? Yes, right. YukiKanda Also, I assume that the third sentence can't be interpreted as idiomatic.
