Hi
Is the idiom not up for the knackers yet is chiefly British? Could you please tell me how common it is in everyday conversation? I heard Margaret Thatcher use it in the film Iron Lady.
Thanks,
Tom
I'm British and recognise it, but I can honestly say I can't recall the last time I heard it used! It's not commonly used.

Google search yields zero hits for "not up for the knackers" (in quotes). I would take it as a variation of "not ready for the knackers (yard)". Is that what it seems to mean in the context?
