Idiom: step on it! + bikes?

Hi,

I know the meaning of step on it but can it be used by a person who is riding a bike? For example, let's imagine two friends riding bikes and one of them wants to speed up. Can he say Hey mate, let's step on it! ?

Thanks

Yes. Although it probably refers to pressing the accelerator (gas pedal) in an automobile, step on it can be used in any situation where you want someone to hurry up, either literally (speed up) or figuratively (work faster, etc).
