idiom or metaphor?

are these idiom or metaphor? i get confused because i read somewhere that some idioms are metaphor ... is it true ?

her niceness is writ large
i catch my breath
i had to bite back the tears that came
it still gives me butterflies to look at him
tears are stinging the back of my eye
i'm going to swallow my pride and my shame and apologize.
