Idiom for a very hard work (but not impossible)

Hi!

I had a discussion with a friend of mine, we tried to find an english translation for a hungarian idiom. We had no success, it turned out about everything we had thought of that they have different meanings. The idioms meaning is that someone tries something very hard, but not impossible.
If anybody knows a good english/american idiom with the same meaning, please don't hesitate to write it down:)

Thanks

Thomas
