Identifying nonfinite clauses

Hello,

I'm having great problems identifying nonfinite clauses as either nominal, postmodifying, or adverbial. Having generally no subordinators, I'm at a loss as to how identify them properly, especially telling postmodifying clauses from adverbial clauses.

I'll post some examples with my answers (more like guesses but still Emotion: wink) and would be immensely grateful if someone would give me correct answers and explain how to do it myself.

TO-INFINITIVE

1. The Global Fund is the main international vehicle for sponsoring projects to tackle AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in poor countries. (postmodifying?)

2. Some saw the move as a ploy to persuade the UN Security Council // to propose a resolution that would now require Israel to withdraw immediately. (all three are postmodifying clauses?)

3. Israel's cabinet approved an army plan to push deeper into Lebanon, up to the Litani river, to control areas used by Hizbullah // to launch its rockets into Israel. (1st postmodifying, 2nd nominal, 3rd adverbial?)

4. Nepal's government and Maoist rebels agreed to invite the UN // to monitor their respective arms stock. (1st nominal, 2nd adverbial?)

ING CLAUSES

1. America's foreign-born population increased to 12.4% in 2005, accounting for around 40% of the population of Los Angeles. (postmodifying?)

2. Such batteries have been responsible for several recent safety incidents, bursting into flames on at least five aircraft. (adverbial?)

3. Hizbullah being what it is, Mr Nasrallah lost no time claiming that this was "a strategic, historic victory". (1st adverbial supplementive, 2nd adverbial?)

ED CLAUSES

1. Confronted directly, at first by the Allies and later by the press, Miss Schwarzkopf hedged and fudged about it all. (1st adverbial supplementive, 2nd ??? not even sure it is nonfinite)

Thank you!
