Identify

Hi,

The rich man identified with the poor. (is this okay or must it be 'identified himself with'?)

2) Can we say he was the bravest among warriors (or something like that) instead of 'bravest of warriors'? Can we have 'among' instead of 'of'?

Thanks,

Both seem OK to me. "bravest among warriors" seems faintly poetic. I don't think I would use this style in conversation.
