With some examples:

Do you have a notion that you'd escape from this mess? means, Do you have a feeling that you'd escape from this mess?

Did you get the concept? means, Did you get the generalized view (say, of something I explained)

I have no idea, why he came here! means, I really (100%) don't know why he came here!
