I'd seen

Hi

I remember I’d seen this girl when she first came to the school, very early on, and thought she looked Spanish.

--- Does the above sentence mean that I remember when I saw her for the first time (on her first day) at school, or does it mean that I saw her before she appeared in the school and it wasn't my first encounter of her?

Thanks

  • It might start to become a bit clearer if it said 'before' instead of 'when'.

Hi

So are you able to say what he actually had in mind? He saw her before she appeared in school or he just saw her on her first day at school?

As is, you remember now the first time you saw her (the first day of school). To change the meaning of when you first saw her, you need a time reference such as before.

OK, I get it. So it just means that I remember when I saw her for the first time (on her first day) at school.

Thanks
