It's just that I'd like to know how my country is seen out there, among yo'all. What do you think, have to discuss, bad things, good things.... I'm so curious about it.........

I have been to Brazil twice. The Amazon river and the rain forests with all their biodiversity are very impressive, and so is the annual carnival in Rio. Brazilian football is number one in the world.

Sao Paulo and Rio are very unsafe for a traveller, though. The police shoot many thieves in the streets every year and social inequity is rampant. I had my bag stolen on the Cobacabana beach while I went to take a swim. Waiters tried to rip me off by adding a drink or two to my bill at restaurants. However, I must admit I had the biggest steaks imaginable in Rio! Enough for three people sometimes.

Some taxi-drivers try to charge you twice the amount you have agreed upon before the journey. Some lock the trunk so no one can steal the passengers' suitcases when the taxi stops at traffic lights - if it stops...

This is peculiar to many other Latin American countries and poor countries in general. One way to improve things would be to somehow increase the living standards of the very poor. It is a pity that 100,000 people live in a favela just 200 metres from the Copacabana beach.

As you see, I admire many things in Brazil but it is not very high on the list of countries I like to visit. On a Greek island in the Mediterranean I can leave my bag on the beach for three hours, and nobody will touch it, not even the tourists, who are probably the most likely thieves in that environment.

And then there's Thailand... aahhh...
