I believe that whether you should compete or cooperate with others is determined by what kind of goal you want to set. If you try to set a personal goal, having rivals brings significant benefits. It not only encourages you to become more competitive but also helps you develop perseverance. In my experience, I felt motivated to stick to my goal to get a high score on TOEIC when I competed with my best friend last year. On the other hand, if you set a large-scale goal, cooperation with others is a more effective way to achieve it. Take a school event, for example. By working together with your classmates, you are highly likely to come up with better and more innovative ideas and help each other to put them into practice. In conclusion, competition with others is no less important for the achievement of a goal than cooperation with others.
