i dont know how to word my letter to my boss asking him for an increase.

i've just being through a divorce and i need to get a place of my own and my earnings are so low that i cant afford to pay rent. im having some problems at the momemt and im not happy where im living at the momement. i desperately need to move out and i can only do that if i get an increase so i will be able to afford to rent a place of my own. i dont mind my boss knowing what im going through because he is a very understanding person its just that i dont know how to word my letter to him. i would really appreciate it if you could please help me.
