ice-cream questions :-)

Hi there,

(1) ice-cream parlo(u)r

I wonder if this name ( for a restaurant that only sells ice cream?) is common not only in North America but also in the UK, Australia, NZ, India? (I am asking this question because my dictionary claims ice-cream parlor is an AmEng coinage... perhaps you could give me some synonyms of 'ice-cream parlor' if any exist?)

(2) to make ice-cream
to cook ice-cream
to manufacture ice-cream
(anything else)?

Which of them are common/natural English?

(3) Are there ice-cream brands comparable in popularity and market size with Baskin Robbins in the world?

Many thanks in advance

2. You don't cook ice cream. You can manufacture it in a factory. You can make ice cream at home—in fact, the device is called an ice cream maker.

3. I don't know. I'm aware of Breyer's, Häagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry's.

We don't have ice-cream parlours here in the UK. The weather is not hot enough for long enough periods to make single-product cafés viable.

We have plenty of ice-cream vans.

Coldstone is popular in California, at least. Frozen yogurt is becoming huge as well, though I'm not sure of any national brands.
