0 Dear teachers, 02br 02br 00I am preparing my ice breaker speech for my public speaking class...I am no good in writing essay and speech. Also i do not think I have make myself clear of my point. Can you help? 02br 00Thanks in advanced. 02br 02br 00It started like this: 02br 02br 00A couple of days ago, my general manager walk to my desk and say : Young lady, I see you here before I come in the office, and you are here after I left the office, even during the weekend , you are sitting in front of the computer. What's wrong with you? Go have fun with your friends, do you not have a life? 02br 00I must say hearing this from a GM is a little bizarre. 02br 00Well, to say I am a work machine is a bit strong really, although I really treated my job as a pass-time I enjoyed enormously. 02br 02br 00Ladies and Gentlemen, 02br 02br 00My name is Maria Liam, and joining a company called general Electric has changed me from an easy going lady to a complete workoholic...though it could be something to do with my childhood 02br 00Here's my story... 02br 00The marriage of my parent had lead to a a growing family of 2 absolutely adorable children. Being the eldest kind of the family, I have been always trying to act older than i was, setting good example to my younger brother, always trying to impress the teachers at school so that not to disgrace my parent. Forgot to mention that my mum is the prinicipal of my primary school and my dad is the headmaster of my highschool! And they still are now. 02br 02br 00Having someone close to me working with the government department have ease my way to enter the local University without any fuss.. Being a student of chemical engineering, at that time, my greatest dream was just to find myself a boyfriend and a job after graduate. 02br 00It was my year in the Uk helps to discovering the real me.. I was so lucky for being offered a one year scholarship sponsored by GE, not to be surprised that I actually hesistated for quite a long time before i made decision, i was so tie to the mother's apron string at that time. But at last, I was there. My life in the city of newcastle has been fascinating,at first I was worried that there would be a language barrier but it was not as bad as I expected. Apart from the benefits I receive from the MSc course, what I appreciate most is that staying in the UK for one year has not only equipped me with the ability to see the world in a very different way but also enabled me to become completely independent 02br 02br 00However, there's no such thing as a free lunch, I was bonded to the company since then for a 5 years period.. The stress of working with one of the biggest company in the world is not a joke. If the set target was not achieved every year, you will drop to the level of bottom 10% and eventually being eliminated from the company...One might say this is not positive at all, but I am all ready to take up the challenge. 02br 02br 00So, what do I do? Our biggest mission is to help pipeline owner to sleep tight at night, so what might wake you up at night if you own a 40 inches pipeline? Yes, a leak. ( Imagine your pipeline as a roll of paper) An intelligent tool driven by battery is launch at the beginning of the pipeline and comes out at the end. The tool carries real pipeline data, the owner now have a better understanding of their pipeline condition, and my role is to analyse the data , and sometimes provide recommendations to keep the pipeline in the safest condition.... 02br 02br 00ok, back to my life, you must questioned by now, does he really not have a life? Well, i reckon that I can sing pretty well. For my birthday one year I was given a karaoke machine (although it only seems to come out now after a few beverages – much to the annoyance of the neighbours!) I even can move my body from left to right while singing, you can call it dance if you like! I might have some cheesy tune but I have fun most of the time! 02br 02br 00when you think of me, you might think of workaholic, you might think of pipeline you might think of karaoke. Each of those is an important aspect of my life, but of course no list of interests is really me. To really know me, you'll have to spend some time with me and decide for yourself who the true Maris. I look forward to getting to know all of you in that same way. 02br 00And finally, please give me a nice applause, because if you dont, I warn you, I will sing. 02br 02br 00Back to you, Mr Chairman. 0-

0This is a charming speech, Little Star, and I wouldn't change a word of it. Of course there are a few grammar mistakes, but you are going to be speaking, not reading-- I HOPE! Trying to read a speech is a big mistake.

02br 02br 00Well before the speech day, just read what you have written here over to yourself several times until what you want to say has become familiar to you.
Then make a few short phrases for notes on a card in order to remind yourself of the basic sequence of what you want to say.
