Ibiza

Here is what one of my friends wrote to me this morning:

''Pissing it down to the point the flat where I'm staying floods, shorts out my laptop charger and almost causes a fire, and generally gets things wet. Didn't I JUST go through something similar in Ibiza !''

How to respond in English when people encounter such an unfortunate situation? What are the other ways to tell you are sorry to hear this other than saying 'I hope the things get better for you.' ?
