My husband and I had an argument this morning. He is American and he said he never heard anybody used I'better expression. I remember from ESL course that I'better and I'rather are the same expression, but he just couldnt agree with me. What do you think?

g. You'd better not have these kinds of arguments. I'd rather avoid them if I just knew how to.

It's "I'd better" not "I'better", and "I'd rather" not "I'rather" - short, obviously, for "I had better" and "I had rather", both perfectly good expressions in British English.
No idea about American, but actually I'd really like to find out. Any chance someone from America confirm or deny the validity of "I'd better" in America please?
