Iambic Pentameter sonnet poem

Question

wirting an inambic pentameter sonnet is making me sick

trying to put the basics together is a test

the thoughts and wondering will this ever click

why does this seem so hard its going to be a mess

oh my dear lord how did i ever miss

the clock keeps ticking i need to rest

i strap my thinking cap on and take a risk

oh how do i try to only write at best

i wonder if i can find that prince to render an encouragement kiss

this better turn out right because its nothing but stress

yes yes i found him the kiss was filled with utter bliss

my head is aching my temples i start to caress

by gosh it looks as this maybe the end

a whole fourteen line sonnet please dont ask this of me again

Iambic pentameter is verse of 5 iambs per line. An iamb is a metrical unit consisting of an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed one - the stress follows the natural stress of the word. For example, the following is an iambic pentameter line:

The mouse ran up the clock, the clock struck one.

The five iambs in this line are: The ^mouse ran ^up the ^clock, the ^clock struck ^one.

Note that you cannot say this as: ^The mouse ^ran up....etc. That would be unnatural stressing.

In your sonnet you don't have the meter right. It should be:

A ^sonnet ^writing ^task does ^make me ^sick.

To ^cram the ^words to^gether ^is a ^test.

I'm ^wond'ring ^if this ^thing will ^ever ^click.

Right now the whole thing is a total mess.

I try and try but all I do is miss.

The clock keeps ticking and I need a rest.

My grade for this course now is at a risk.

But I must try to keep on doing my best.

If I could conjure up a prince to kiss

my cheek, it would get rid of all that stress.

Why, that would be just unrelenting bliss.

And better too, if there were a caress.

I think I'm almost at the sonnet's end.

I do not want to do this thing again.
