The bar chart shows the numbers (in thousands) of students with pass grades in different subject exam in Wales in 2003. The numbers for each subject are divided boys and girls and show some general differences between boy’s and girl’s pass rates.
The most numbers of boys with pass grades are two subjects: Maths and Science but neither of them are the subject which had more numbers of girls than boys with pass grades. The girl students did best in English: over sixty thousand students, while their lowest rate was in History. The same numbers of girls achieved pass grades not only in Science and Geography but also in Maths and Arts. Very few boys achieved pass grades in History and Geography: just under and over thirty respectively. More numbers of girl achieved pass grades than boys in social science subjects such as English, History, Geography and Arts. However, boy students learned better than girls in natural science subjects.
