"I would write" or "I would have written"

Hello,

If there much of a difference between the phrases "I would write" and
"I would have written"? For instance, if you do not agree with a
sentence or few written by someone else, what would you say – that you
would write or you would have written it in a different way?

As I understand, these expressions are essentially similar:

1) "I would write it in a different way" = If I am demanded to write
something similar in the future, I would write it differently.

2) "I would have written it in a different way" = If I were you in this exact
situation in the past while you were writing the text, I would have written
it in a different way.

Are my explanations correct?

Thanks in advance.

victor_amelkin Are my explanations correct? Essentially yes. The only small comment I'd make is that in #1 I do not place the hypothetical situation in which I might be required to write such a thing strictly in the future.

  • To me, it's more of a timeless hypothetical.

I want to say to hi: If I could write like you I would have written.
