Could you please comment on these sentences? How best can I explain this idea?

I would wake up from nightmares, covered in sweat every time I slept.

I would wake up covered in sweat from nightmares every time I slept.

Number three is OK. Number one is better with a slight tweak: "I would wake up from nightmares covered in sweat every time I slept." Number two is clumsy.
