00I'd say they are actually different in meaning (one is past, the other is conditional), although I think both can probably be used interchangeably in several situations. I'd say the fist, "I would never have thought...", is more emphatic and it stresses the fact you feel surprised. But maybe the other is more common, even in the same kinds of situations...02br
