'I would like to try' in past tense

Hi everybody,

I'm curious how could I express 'I would like to try something' in past tense.

For example: I wanted to try something in the past because it would've been great that time (and I didn't have the possibility to do it that time) but I don't want to try it now because it would be useless / uninteresting / obsolete / etc. now.

Thank you very much for any answer in advance.
