I'd say sciene fiction and horror--But the question is whether I'll be able to enrich my English by reading sciene fiction books? I don't want to speak like the Star Trek captain.
By the way, did I use whether properly in the last context?

Your 'whether' is OK.

Sci Fi is written in 20th/21st century English. There are few words used that are actually 'Trekkie'. The most important consideration is that you choose reading that interests you. A respected writer of good Sci Fi and good English is [url=http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/b

Thank you for your recommendation.
By the way, is it correct to write:
Recommend on?

Recommend on
Hard to say without a sentence. These are OK:

...best book you would recommend on typography
What book(s) would you recommend on discipline?
What do you recommend on a long weekend in Geneva?
...the European Commission will recommend on May 16 that Greece, Germany and Malta exit

For Horror, Stephen King is one of the most popular writers. (For a classic, try Edgar Allen Poe or H.P. Lovecraft)

The Shining is a good start, though I can't recall how difficult the language is.

I picked up a book by the publisher Penguin, they have a series of books arranged by the difficulty of text. Although the language you used makes it seem like you don't need a crutch.
