I wondered do you often stay out so late at night or not
Hi all !
In my online grammar classes I have been given several sentences to check and I have managed to resolve all of them except this one: "I wondered do you often stay out so late at night or not". I have tried al possible solutions but the online program gives me no point for it. Can anybody think of the proper grammar of the sentence ?

The 2 answers gave me no points. The grammar administrator just told me that the problem is conneceted to the verb tenses.

Annvan is on the right track, but I would remove "or not." It particularly bothers me in the first sentence where it is separated from "whether," but I think both sentences would be better without it. I can't exactly say why.

I think you need more clarification from the administrator. I wondered whether can take both past and present - your "wondering" can be over (your confusion resolved) whether your "going out" was in the past or the present. Do you think he/she thinks it should be I wondered whether you went or I wonder whether you go? Is so, I disagree.

Thank you for your help but I have tried your options and got no points either. It must be sth connected with either the tenses or the position of "often". I have no idea.

Maybe I wondered this 30 seconds ago. Maybe I wondered this 30 years ago. Either way, 'stayed' is correct.

"stayed so late" -- did you just accidentally omit the "out" in this, or is that really what got you the point for?
If those other combinatins got no points, I would seriously quesiton the validity of the questions.
