I wonder if I've understood the meaning correctly.

Hi all,

Reading a passage, I came across this sentence:

"The children would be spared their parents' sins."

Does it mean they won't be punished/won't suffer for the wrong their parents have done?

Many thanks in advance.

It refers to an idea from the Bible, "The sins of the fathers are visited on the sons." It is expressed in various forms, but none I have seen, including mine there, actually appear in the King James Version verbatim. Where people get the nerve to paraphrase what they think is the Word of *** I'll never know. See Numbers 14:18, for example.
