I wish the ground would shallow me.

Hey everyone!

I was pretty sure that I wrote the idiom correctly in a thread, but, someone told me the correct form was "I wish the ground could shallow me up". I've googled both idioms and, there are no options in which the idiom is complete. Okay, with the one in the tittle I got a link to my own profile, but, that doesn't mean anything.

I am starting to think "I wish the ground would shallow me" doesn't have a meaning in English, I found it in my dictionary looking for the word "tierra" since that idiom in Spanish is "¡Tierra trágame!".

Do you think you can help me once more?:)

Thanks in advance!

Pucca, I think you want "swallow, " not "shallow."

Emotion: embarrassed Thanks Khoff, next time I'll read better!

It's a start. Googlers will quote your profile; then other googlers will quote their quotes; and before you know it, it will be an idiom.

So look again in ten years' time, and you'll be vindicated.

MrP, I don't know how you manage it, but, you always make me smile!:) Thanks!

Will you remind me to google it in 10 years?

It's a deal. I've put a reminder in my MS Calendar.

(It's set to remind me 15 mins before the appointment is due.)

So, it will tell you in September 1st at 0:45 (my time), 2017? Emotion: smile

Wow, I wonder where I will be by then!

00:45? Certainly not. Ten years is ten years. I set it for 15:10 on Sept. 1st, 2017.

Don't tell me you can't make it. I had to reschedule two other appointments to make room for it. (And it may well be too late to change them again, at such short notice.)

I think I can, maybe I'll be sleeping by that time, who knows?:P But, first of all, you have to say "yes, that idiom exists", you know, they need a native's opinion..

See you later!
