I wish I can/could

In the following sentence, should it be "could" instead of "can" after the expression "I wish"?

"I wish I can meet my wife in the hereafter, but I don't think I will."

Top answer

" Use" could" after "wish" because it implies that your meeting your wife is an impossibility. Hence, "but I don't think I will" is not necessary.
