'I will want to V'

Is it okay to use 'I will want to V'?

I will want to study English.

I would not want to do it in the past.

I know that there are many meanings in 'will' and I feel like it is unnatural to use 'will' want to V. especially with the subject "I".

So again my question is that when 'will' is used for the meaning of 'willing to do something' is it okay and natural to use 'I' and 'want to', like 'I will (would) want to V'?

Thank you so much as usual in advance.

Hi With regard to the past: - When I was young, I would not want to go to the cinema That is certainly OK, but I think it is more natural to say: - When I was young, I never wanted to go to the cinema - I didn't want to go to the cinema With regard to the future. I think that tense can work if there is something stopping you at the moment: - When I've finished this work project, I will want to play golf But even then, I think I'd just use the present: - When I've finished this work project, I want to play golf So, to answer your question - I think you're right to be suspicious. Neither of those tenses seems quite natural to me if we are expressing our wants Dave

Hi

With regard to the past:

- When I was young, I would not want to go to the cinema

That is certainly OK, but I think it is more natural to say:

- When I was young, I never wanted to go to the cinema
- I didn't want to go to the cinema

With regard to the future. I think that tense can work if there is something stopping you at the moment:

No, 'Will" is not necessary. When we say ' I want...', we are implying 'future' if applied. For example, ' I want to have fried chicken tonight'. Will - is future. I will go to see grandma this weekend.

Hi

I think it is because 'want' is a stative verb and there are limits on the tenses you can use with such a verb

Stative verbs are quite complicated - I must leave you to research them, if you wish
