I will be there for / at / (by) 8

Hi there, I would use "at" in the above sentence. However I think I have seen "for" and "by" as well. Could you help me with this one please?

'For 8 PM' is not really possible, but 'for the opening', 'for the banquet', etc, is common enough. I will be there at 8 PM = I will arrive at that time precisely. I will be there by 8 PM = I will arrive at that time or before that time.

"I will be there for eight" is possible in British English. It suggests that the speaker's presence is required for something at that time.
