I went to the bank this morning

There is a choice-question in the test:
"Complete the conversation:

I went to the bank this morning.

A: Where did you go?
B: I'm afraid not.
C: Oh good, we need some cash."

My choice is C. Am I right?

Answer A seems natural too

- I went to the bank this morning.
- Where did you go?
- Well, I like the staff at the one on South Lane but I was in a hurry, so I went to the High Street branch

This kind of language proficiency test question requires the answer that most reasonably completes the dialogue without further supposition.

I understand what you say and, yes, B works too!

If it's a sit-down exam test, C must be right. But if there are also answers that aren't blatantly wrong, I sometimes think it's unfair to penalise students who see other possibilities

Oh, I agree. The trouble with tests is that they're never perfect, and we always have students here (as do I at home) asking 'Why isn't this right?' when it can indeed be right. Presumably those asking about proficiency test questions are actually taking a proficiency tes
