I went to ........ forgetting the towels.

Hello,

I am not sure if this is correct... I have to doubts. I put them in bold

The sentence is:

"Something funny that happened to my friend Pilar and me was that one day we went to the swimming pool forgetting the towels. When we decided to get out we also realized that...."
