Do the following carry the same meaning?


I was wondering, did you take it.(?)

I was wondering if you took it.

Yes. That's the same idea either way. if is used to introduce an indirect yes-no question.

...and so both are equally correct in spoken and written English? And what about the question mark in the first sentence?

I was wondering, did you take it?

is more everyday English. And yes, you use the question mark.

I was wondering if you took it.

is also everyday English, but this is the one you use in more formal writing.
