I was gonna.

Hi, i was having a conversation with someone and i asked the person have you talked to Sam? And the answer was: Yeah, i was gonna meet her. Now, in my head i thought " Was gonna, waht happened? not going anymore?" So i told the person that, and she said, no.. i just have to call her, i'm gonna meet her tomorrow; and told me that it's not wrong to say i was gonna for something that you are still gonna do. I cot really confused and still think is wrong to say i was gonna, and think that she should have said i am going to. Can someone help me here?
