I was expecting for the worst

We reached home. I was expecting for the worst -- a few slaps, or at least some harsh words as punishment for breaking the rule. But to my great surprise and relief, nothing of that sort happened. I found the atmosphere of the house quite normal, as if my breaking of the rule was not a big deal. Mother said in her soft voice, "go, wash yourself and sit at the reading table." I almost cried hearing this and promised myself that I would never ever do this again.

Are there any mistakes? Thanks

Thanks MM,

One question: Is the preposition "for" with "expect" wrong?

.
It is wrong. Expect takes a direct object.

I am expecting guests for dinner.
What did you expect for your birthday-- a 21-gun salute?

Thanks MM.

But we hope for the better. Is it correct? Can we as well say:

"Hope for the worst." ?
