I want to confirm whether or not this is true.

0Someone told me the title line is wrong for the abuse of the verb confirm. I was told I could say either of the following:02br
02br
00I want to confirm this is true.02br
02br
00I want to confirm this is not ture.02br
02br
00But not the combination of them as titled.02br

0But how about in such a context: I was told how to solve a problem in school. After going back to home, I wrote down the solution by myself. Then next morning, I gave my solution to the teacher to check. So I did need his or her confirmation on whether or not my solution was true or right. Using find in such a situation is kind of not so good as using confirm. Do you think so? Thanks. 01bloc

0 I agree with you - you are asking for confirmation of something. That is different from wanting to find out if something is true or not. 0-
