I wake up a few minutes later

1. "I'll arrive in 10 minutes"

2. "I woke up a few minutes later"

Hi, why is the preposition, "in" not needed in the second sentence compared to the first one?

In the first one, the speaker will arrive at a given time. In the second, the speaker woke up later than a known time .

Future time:

He will wake up a few minutes later than me. (A few minutes after I wake up)
He will wake up in a few minutes. (A few minutes from the present time)

Past time:

He woke up before / after / at 7 am.
