I trust something that?

Hi! everyone.
Could you tell me whether the following sentence is correct?
I trust the universe that justice, truth and peace will prevail.
Should it not be: I trust that justice, truth and peace will prevail in the universe?
I have one more question.
"They needed to be careful."
Does the above sentence mean they should have been careful but they didn't/weren't ?(which one is correct here?)
Thanks!

Should it not be: I trust that justice, truth and peace will prevail in the universe? Both sentences are correct, but the meanings are slightly different. In the first one, the universe itself is regarded as the entity responsible for ensuring that those things happen.
