I trained to be a communicator

1- I trained (to be) a communicator.
2- I was trained (to be) a communicator.

It would depend on the language situation, Pastel, but I'd say it's fair to say that the active is generally the more preferred choice.

I think native speakers would say 'trained as X' rather than 'trained to be X' (though the latter is not wrong)

As for the choice of the voice, I think it seems to depend on personal preference, as JTT has already told.
Google survey will give results as follows.
I trained as X ....16500 I trained to be X... 820
I was trained as X ..

Both. (If you use "google" it's a good idea to provide the contexts from the ex

Thank you, JTT. Somehow my intuition tells me that that if I use the passive voice, I sound a bit pessimistic. The active one is more optimistic.

As paco said, I just googled them a bit. Is it more likely to use "to be" when what comes after is an adjective?

1- I trained to be a more aggressive sales representative.
2- I trained as a sales representative.

Can't we use them in passive, I was trained to be a more aggressive sales representative, or I was trained as a sales representative?
