I tore the hardcover of a book off..

Are these sentences grammatically correct and natural enough?

? I tore the hardcover of a book off and fanned myself with it. The air produced from it didn't give the satisfaction as of an electric fan though! However without it I couldn't have tolerated the steaming hotness of surrounding. It gave me a huge relief, although it's little/ it made an iota of difference.
