I thought it wasn't necessary

A: Why didn't you pick my call?

B: I thought it wasn't necessary.

Is B's response grammatically correct and natural? Please tell me what are the other ways to convey the same idea?

Thanks.

I don't know what B is telling A. "I didn't want to talk with you." "Your calls are not important to me."
