I think he won't pass the exam.

I saw this sentence sounds too unnatural or incorrect in English rule. I want to understand why it does. But is the natives hardly ever use like this expression in real?

There is no perfect rule in the language!

It's more natural in BrE to say "I don't think he will pass the exam".
