I thank you for your answers???

I've seen the following sentence in a newspaper.

"He thanked the Italian people for their solidarity"

Sometimes can I express like this?

"I thank you so much for your answer"

I've never used the subject when expressing "thank you". So I'm not sure whether using a subject is possible, especially for "I".

Thank you for your answer in advance.
