I Stopped Down The Lane

I stopped down the lane
Opened the creaking gate
I walked up the path
And looked through the window pane

It was all dark around me
But, I saw the light inside
Also people moving
As in any house would be

Strangers were all they
In that house so old
But, plants and trees were all new
Flowers bloomed all the way

In this house I was born
Played too in the garden
All now was new here
But, my memories were all worn

Hello Anita

That's another interesting one. I wonder whether the rhymes have distorted the word order slightly in some places: e.g. lines 8, 9, 10. What do you think?

I wonder too about the last line; is 'worn' the natural word here?
