I still pray for your pardon

I will buy you a new watch as a replacement. Maybe it won't be as valuable as the one you lent me. So I still pray for your pardon.

Hi,
Does the bolded sentence in the above sound good in the context? Is it better to rewrite it as "So I still beg your pardon?"

Top answer

The original is overly apologetic and does not match the register of a sentence about a lost watch. I beg your pardon is just wrong here. I suggest: I'll buy you a new watch as a replacement , though I can't afford one as valuable as the one you lent me.
