"I severely want..."

Hi all,

My sister-in-law wants my help settling an argument. Is the sentence "I severely want a drink." proper English? My instinct is that it sounds awkward, but is technically correct, as "severely" is an adverb, with "to want" being the verb. Thoughts? Anything I'm missing?
