I see you smiling vs i see you smile

Hi all, what is the difference between "I see you smile" and "I see you smiling"? Which one is correct? Thanks.

Top answer

Both are fine; the second is probably more common. The 2nd does not make it clear whether the beginning and end of the smile were seen.
