Hey, I live in Sweden and I just did a word gap test in my english class.
I got a few ones incorrect and i'm curious as to what's wrong with them.
This was the first one:
Marie reported sick this morning
Do you know what's the ____________ with her?
No, she didn't say
I wrote problem and got it wrong. Matter was viewed as more fitting but isn't problem fine too?
This was the second sentence:
I'm glad you agreed to the deal at last.
Are you? I really didn't have much _________ did I?
I wrote saying but got it wrong. The correct answer was choice which I can understand. However I thought the phrase saying could be used in this manner.
Thanks on beforehand!

With 'problem', it's more natural to ask 'Do you know what her problem is?' <<<<<<<<<

Do you know what's wrong with her? (This is the most natural response, but no "the".)
Do you know what's the matter with her? (This is a bit awkward because "What's the matter with her?" is not a good indirect question. The indirect question is: "Do you know what the matter with her is? " )
Do you know what her problem is? (Less common.)
